“Hello. Sorry for the delay. I was held up fixing a bike puncture near Bhongir highway. That is where I reside with my family, by the way. I completed class 11 and decided to quit college later due to a financial crisis at home. I then started assisting in a mechanic’s workshop in Hyderabad. There, I had learnt how to fix a puncture and change a tyre. I worked at the workshop for four years before starting a mobile tyre repair unit 20 years ago.
A flat tyre is a nightmare for everyone who goes on highways.Damaged valves and nails are the main reasons for a flat tyre. They often run a flat at the most inconvenient of time. That is where I come to rescue people. See that poster stuck on the top of my shop? The poster carries my name, contact number and my occupation. People often take a snap of the poster or note down my name and number. It’s mostly the bikers who call me though. Earlier, I used to work on bicycles but over the year, I had learnt to repair all vehicles. It was mostly those in and around Gajwel highway who called me before. Now, people who are stuck in a distance of more than 5 km call me. If I am not working in my shop, I will be there; it doesn’t matter how far the place is.
My day starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. I do attend to emergency requests late at night too if the situation demands. I usually hang out with my friends or spend time with my children after work. I don’t take any off days. I enjoy meeting new people and travelling, so this job of mine fits the bill. Besides, more than an occupation, I see my job as a Good Samaritan service and that’s what drives me to enjoy what I do.”
