“Independence is always something I chased after in life ever since I was a child. I started to sell seasonal fruits and vegetables at a young age and continued even after my marriage despite some resistance at home.
I come from a family of farmers in rural Hamlet in the Yadadri district. I am married with two children, a girl and a boy and I feel proud and happy to be able to educate them in good schools. I have to travel 60 km up and down every day, however, when it comes to the happiness and well-being of the family, everything seems possible.
One thing that’s strange to me is that despite being equally skilled, there are still quite a few families, especially in a rural setting, who rarely expect the women of the family to work after marriage. Marriage and career are two separate aspects and it’s high time every family realizes this and encourages their daughters to pursue their career goals.
I want my children to be well provided for and this job helps me to fulfil that dream. Of course, not every day is going to be fruitful but I accept it and move ahead with the hope of a better tomorrow.”
