“Growing up in a defence background and looking at the camaraderie, brotherhood, discipline and the ethos; I believe that the two stars on the shoulder are much brighter than millions of those in the sky. I always wanted serve my nation as an army officer. To achieve my goal, I need to go through everything step by step. So, I cleared my exams and joined the academy in 2015, during my 2nd part in Ctw Secunderabad training my life took an unexpected turn and I sustained an injury when I was going through the final obstacle and my boots slipped and fell from a height of 8-10 ft, dislocated my elbow and had an open compound fracture. I remember vividly that the first thing that came out of my mouth was not a scream or it was not me crying but telling my senior that “Sir, mujhe board out nahi hona” (Sir I do not want to get boarded out). Precisely I felt that, ‘it was just an injury and I can go through the recovery process and finally get back to my training’. Little did I know that it would lead onto 6 surgeries and remain in the hospital for 1 ½ year. Everyday they would pump litres of antibiotics into my body and the only thing kept me going was one day I have to get back to my training and complete it.

But guess what? life had different plans for me and the day came where my doctors had told me that I couldn’t get back to my training and my dream of becoming an Indian army officer have shattered in front of my eyes. I spent my share of sleepless nights crying alone so that no one would see me crying.
I decided one fine day, that if I had the capability to acquire a merit of 47 all over India, I definitely had the capability to hit that restart button in life. My family and friends were the biggest support and they encouraged me throughout. They always said ‘once a leader is always a leader’. I had followed a simple set of principles comprising of Resilience, resolve and patience that made a big part in my life and to recover I took one day at a time and gradually built myself up.

Coming to my academics, I was interested in Maths and Statistics and I looked for colleges which offered these courses. Eventually I joined Loyola Academy after a four-year gap from my accident and slowly I established myself there and in the final year I served as the head boy and that was the biggest achievement during my college. For a living I work as a data engineer and I see myself in the near future doing something big in this field and I believe one can serve the nation in anyway possible or by being a good citizen. Always remember that it is okay to fail but it definitely not okay to stop trying.”
