“Can Mathematics and Science be made interesting for the students? Can we change the mindset of the students to make them hard-working? These were the two problems that I started working on since last year right in the middle of the first lockdown.
I was born and brought up in Jamshedpur, in Jharkhand. My father was an employee in Tata Motors, and my mother is a homemaker. Even though I wasn’t a big fan of the pedagogical methodologies in schools, I somehow managed to study well. In fact, I was a topper throughout my academics. I completed my schooling at Gulmohur school and joined IIT Kharagpur afterwards. Soon, I left for IIM Bengaluru for grad school and started working in American Express, as a risk analyst before moving on to other companies.
Even though I always had an interest in teaching, I couldn’t pursue it full-time because of my hectic work schedule. But when the lockdown happened, I felt that I should do something for the younger generation to educate them through online classes. Nowadays students have so many distractions compared to what we used to have. Phones are filled with apps/games that steal precious time from the day of our children. The smartest engineers are paid top dollars to get our children, and everyone else hooked to addictive apps. But on the brighter side, phones can also serve as the force multiplier to our children’s progress. I am one of those (perhaps not so smart) engineers who utilize the power of the phone to make a tremendous positive difference in the life of my students and their families through experiential learning. That certainly led to the establishment of the Curious Mind Institute.
Having observed the growth of colleagues and batch-mates over the years, I have learned that effective guidance from inspirational mentors can spur the children to visualize and actualize success. That’s why we do panel discussions with achieving professionals. Our career-oriented program, LEAP, brings together stimulating classes, experiential learning, and inspiration under one roof.
I teach students Science and Maths harnessing the power of the phone. I teach Science like the subject of wonder and Mathematics like the subject of logic. The way they should be taught. My family and friends were the pillars of strength to me throughout and today 100+ students of class 9th and 10th are learning Science and Maths like never before. I truly believe that quality Science & Maths education should be available to everyone and I take pride that students from diverse economic backgrounds across various cities (Jamshedpur, Gurgaon, Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai) are all benefitting from this program. I just hope we could reach out to more young students in India to bring out a transformational change in society!”
