“For an artist, art is what keeps them alive. I was 8 years old when my interest for music began to bloom. I come from a non-musical background. After observing my curiosity in music, a teacher in my school convinced my parents to help me pursue music.
My journey towards Super Singers 2008 began when I was in 7th standard, when my mother learnt about a reality show for young artists like me. I have always been an introvert and I was not prepared to take to the stage and face the audience. I was told if I don’t muster the courage to go up on stage, I would never be able to showcase my talent.
I took it up as a challenge and chose to give my best. Luckily, I got selected for the reality show. When I went back home, my grandfather’s reaction was inexplicable. He was elated. He couldn’t be more happier to note that his grandson has taken up music to be his art. My grandfather is a playwriter and has also been the jury member of the Nandi Awards.
The journey with “Jammers” started in 2017, while I was still in college. Our first public gig out of CBIT happened in the year 2018. Everytime I performed in front of a huge audience, I had goosebumps. Joining a band was never a part of my plan. The whole idea of performing in a band seeded in college.
The concept of regional bands and gigs in Hyderabad was a whole new tune when I started off. The crowd started to welcome the idea. Well, the tune was new but not alien to them. As the culture set in, a myriad of regional bands with similar ideas mushroomed. There was a taboo attached to performing in clubs. Slowly, people were stepping out of that taboo.
Performing for large audiences became my escapade. It was exhilarating. I vividly remember our first performance outside of Hyderabad. It was in Bengaluru. I had jitters because I was not sure if non-Telugu crowd would enjoy my performance. To my surprise, the club was filled with a crowd of 500 people in no time. It was also a soul stirring experience to see my father in the crowd. It was his first time to witness me perform.
Just like for everybody out there, lockdown has been a lean patch for us as well. Since, we started working on our own composition, it assuaged the dull phase. We began composing 3 songs during this period. All the three compositions have three different emotions to them. After a lot of thought and effort, we are out now with our first composition called “Valalo”. It is a light hearted song, with a retro feel to it.
From my experience, the biggest learning has been to be true to my art.”
