“People expect us to sell quality and innovative products at affordable prices so we constantly upgrade our skills in the making of these terracotta vessels.
Right now, as the summer season has started, there is a demand for these pots and vessels. Not only are these items relatively inexpensive and beautiful, but customers also say the food, especially chicken and fish curries, and biriyani; tastes better when prepared in these vessels.
The clay we use is sourced from the Madanapalle region in the Horsely Hills in the Chittoor District. I go there every three months to get new stock and we make these products all by hand along with our worker’s help.
My children are pursuing their higher education now and they wouldn’t want to continue this business. In a way, I feel low that our ancestral profession is going to end with me but I am happy with my children’s choices. After all, it’s their life and I am here to support their future no matter what they wish to pursue in life.”
