“My father and I always loved the mountains. The cold bliss on our face, the serenity we were part of and the mud houses we were surrounded with. Just staring at these mountains would bring joy to our eyes. I come from a defence family, this gave me the privilege to grow and travel all around the country. My parents made sure to inculcate the love for nature right since I was a little girl.
2014 was when I reunited with the beautiful mountains once again. I was volunteering for an NGO in Ladakh for two weeks in which I was involved with the rural communities across Ladakh. We aimed to promote resource management. We helped people of various remote villages in and around Ladakh by educating them about it. Who knew, this would be the turning point in my life. It was now that I decided to work for the mountain communities. I realized this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
We as a nation are blessed to have a rich cultural diversity and we just explore a tiny fragment of it. I wanted people in and around India to get a taste of the magnificent mountains our nation is bordered by. 2016 is when the conception of ‘Offbeat Tracks’ happened. A travel platform that offers the uniqueness of India and the Himalayas as a whole. ‘Travel like a local, live like a local’ is a dictum I have always believed in. Immersive travel is what we aim to provide to our clients. Choose a cycle tour or a walking tour instead of a taxi. Choose a homestay instead of a hotel.
I believe every travel story ought to have a challenge in it. I remember, I was travelling to Sikkim in a taxi and got stuck in a landslide. Since the taxi couldn’t cross the landslide, the driver dropped me in the middle of a landslide. Later, I had to hop onto a truck and reach Gangtok after two days. Well, experiences bring some thrill and excitement to your story of travelling.
COVID has been one of those thrilling landslides which have hit the Travel industry at a great length. I believe in taking each step as it comes and I am doing the same now. Having the right support from my family and celebrating every small victory, has helped me pass this bumpy journey, smoothly so far.”
