“I am an ardent fan of superstar Rajinikanth so whenever his films were released, I would go to the theatre first-day first show to cheer for him. Growing up in Kanyakumari, I used to get so engrossed with films that I would start framing my own version of the screenplay later. I was extremely passionate about the craft. Apart from movies, I was also passionate about exploring the world traveling solo. But when the time came to choose a career, reality obviously won. After my schooling, I started working as a commission agent in a jaggery factory to support my family due to the financial crises.
My job is to buy products from the Palm jaggery factory in Kanyakumari and then sell it to the customers by traveling across the different states in India.
I sell this specially made palm jaggery which is from Tamil Nadu. I sell two varieties of jaggery, one is the palm jaggery and the other is the ginger mixed variety. When I started working, I was a little disappointed about not being able to pursue my dreams of becoming an actor. I came to realize that things will not be as we expect them to be in life, but it didn’t mean that I had to stop exploring more about my interests and my passion. So I started interacting with all the people while traveling to different states doing this business – I would greet my customers in a friendly manner and ask about their customs, traditions and the festivals they celebrated.
Initially, it was difficult for me to understand the new language but slowly I picked up and began to learn so much about this beautiful country of ours that it felt like I was living my dream again.
Now I have a slightly altered dream. I’m going to save up as much as I can in the next one year and then explore the world whenever I get the chance. I don’t know what the future holds for me but until then, I will work, explore and know more about people and their cultures.”
