Here’s the story of Dr. Pavan Datta G.V.S, who secured 22nd Rank in UPSC 2022 Results.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family background.
“I was always good at academics right from my childhood. My father works in LIC, Rajampet, and my mother is a teacher in a Government school in Railway Kodur in Annamayya district. I studied MBBS at SV Medical College Tirupati. I passed out of college in 2020. My younger brother is a software engineer.”
What motivated you to appear for the UPSC exam being a medico?
“It was my parents who motivated me to appear for UPSC with a service-oriented approach.
Even while I was doing my MBBS, my mother used to encourage me for the Civils preparation as it has a lot to do for the public. Her support and values instilled in me made me think about it.”
Tell us a bit about your motive to appear for the UPSC Exam.
“After receiving my MBBS degree, I served in a few hospitals and healthcare centers, as part of training and internship.
My observations during my training period at the medical centers have pushed me to appear for Civil services with a service-oriented approach for the public.
Lack of medical resources and healthcare infrastructure facilities as well as the downside in the policy making were some of the reasons that made me go in-depth in terms of my preparation and motive to crack UPSC.”
Tell us a bit about your preparation process.
“In 2022 February, I started my UPSC preparation and cracked the exam on my first attempt.
I got in touch with Dr. Bala Latha Ma’am along with my friend in 2020 after completing MBBS for guidance regarding the civil services exam. I wanted to choose Medical Science as optional. But Ma’am insisted that I chose Anthropology with her analysis and guidance.
Apart from that, I have also appeared in the mock
exams online and offline, and it has certainly helped me in my preparation for UPSC in a very holistic manner.”
Were you confident about cracking the exam on the first attempt?
“The UPSC exam result is unpredictable! To crack it, you need to have a clear target and a well-planned approach.
The first step is to prepare a good study plan. The vast UPSC syllabus makes clearing this exam a tedious process. For this, you need to study the syllabus and then, chart out a plan as per your schedule and convenience. You must spend a few hours every day for your IAS preparation.
Also, do your due diligence on books and magazines before acquiring them. Studying from the wrong sources would prove detrimental to your preparation. Appearing for mock exams, test series, both for the prelims and the mains are crucial for success in the UPSC.
Final words:
I am happy to be able to achieve All India’s 22nd Rank in the UPSC on my first attempt. Civil service is a place where you can work at the grassroot level to make some good policies and contribute to the overall development of the nation.
I take this as an opportunity to contribute my part in the service of the nation to the responsibilities given to me.”
